San Juan, Puerto Rico: Puerto Rico has been chosen to host the 20th edition of Routes Americas, following one of the most successful years in the country's tourism history.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company plans to organize an air service development event in 2027 with the purpose of improving links between North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport connects North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean islands, with over 6.8 million passenger arrivals in 2025, a year-on-year increase of over 3%. Increased air connectivity and cruise traffic, together with ongoing investment in hotel infrastructure, have solidified the island's position as a world-class tourist destination.

Tourism Expansion and Sustainable Development

San Juan is also widely regarded as a pioneer in responsible tourism due to its unique green infrastructure, environmentally friendly transportation, and support for local businesses. The destination's commitment to sustainability ensures a profitable and resilient future for both locals and tourists.

Routes' director, Steven Small, stated, "We are happy to be working with Puerto Rico Tourism Company again. Having hosted a previous Routes Americas event, they have seen firsthand the significant impact that the event has on accelerating network growth."

He said that San Juan's long-term business strategy is well aligned with the event's goals.

Industry Leaders Highlight Puerto Rico’s Strategic Role

"The island has a clear and sustainable international growth strategy, which supports culture-centred tourism, honouring both its people and its natural treasures," Small told reporters.

"With decision-makers from over 90 of the region's leading and fastest-growing airlines expected to attend Routes Americas 2027, the event offers a unique opportunity for the destination to showcase its competitive value proposition for travellers from around the world."

Governor Jenniffer González-Colón commented, "The choice of Puerto Rico as host of Routes Americas 2027 is a powerful endorsement of the international community's strong confidence in the island's stability, vision, and proven ability to successfully deliver an event of this magnitude."

This milestone establishes a strategic foundation for attracting investment, creating jobs, and strengthening Puerto Rico's position as a vital hub for connectivity and economic development in the Western Hemisphere.

Strengthening Partnerships and Future Connectivity

Willianette Robles-Cancel, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, commented, "Hosting Routes Americas 2027 is both an honor and a significant responsibility."

This award recognizes Puerto Rico's strategic importance in the development of aviation access routes throughout the Americas.

This expert conference offers an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with airlines and airport authorities while supporting long-term growth that benefits the entire tourist value chain.

"The only limit to our realization of tomorrow is our doubts of today."
